There hasn’t been much in the way of new information about future Honda electric vehicles – until now. The Japanese automaker is planning to break into the electric vehicle segment in full force. With their entry into the electric vehicle segment comes a bold claim: its 2022 electric vehicles will charge in as little as 15 minutes.
At the moment, one of the largest downsides to owning an electric vehicle is how long it takes to charge the battery. Honda is working to change that and plans to have a 2022 electric vehicle that can achieve a range of 150 miles on a 15-minute charge.
While other automakers are focusing on how many miles a vehicle can travel when equipped with a large, fully-charged battery, Honda is looking in the other direction. The Japanese automaker is looking at how far an electric vehicle can go after just 15 minutes on the charger.
Currently, many drivers remain skeptical about electric vehicles. Charging times are a large contributor to the skepticism. Since the average car can have a full tank of gas in as little as five minutes, Honda is aiming to provide more miles in less time.
Honda plans to launch into the electric vehicle segment with two models in production for the 2019 model year. The brand is shooting to have a 15-minute charge time in just five years. That’s a major jump, but if there’s any automaker that can do it, it’s Honda.
