The Honda OpenTheCheer contest, which has been held over the month of December on Twitter, has awarded a prize to a different Twitter user every day of the month, with the grand prize being a 2016 Honda Accord Touring. Honda is the first automaker to give a car away over social media.
Honda is utilizing Twitter’s Instant Win feature for the contest. Users retweet the daily tweet on Honda’s Twitter account, and then they receive a short video letting them know whether or not they’ve won. Honda will donate a dollar to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation for every retweet up to $100,000.
Aside from the daily retweets for smaller prizes, all retweets from the month will be put into a pool to choose the winner of the new Accord Touring. Some of the daily prizes include Apple Watches and Amazon gift cards.
PBTF officials expressed excitement at the partnership with Honda, saying the OpenTheCheer campaign will shed light on the devastation of this disease and “make the ‘power of dreams’ come true for kids battling brain tumors.”
